This trip provides the traveler with a short visit to the Western Part of Bhutan.  If you are coming to Bhutan this trip will include all of the items that the visitor will have read about.    The trip takes you through a breathtaking landing at Paro International Airport, exploring the current capital city of Thimphu, the old Capital Punakha visiting Dochu-La pass along the way.  The highlight of the trip, a trek to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, is the grand finale just before the departure.

Program

  • Day 1

    Paro & Thimphu

    The flight to Paro offers breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, after visa formalities, your guide will be waiting to greet you and take you on the tour. Drive to Thimphu.

  • Day 2

    Thimphu

    Today, we will begin our tour by visiting the beautiful Memorial Chorten, built in memory of our late 3rd King. After that, we will drive to Kuenselphodrang to see one of the tallest sitting statues of Shakyamuni Buddha, which overlooks the capital city. Later, we will visit the Takin Zoo to see Bhutan’s most endangered national animal. We will also stop by the nunnery and the painting school. After lunch, we will visit the Royal Textile Academy, the Post Office to view Bhutan’s award-winning stamps, and the farmer’s market. In the evening, we will tour Tashichho Dzong, a stunning medieval fortress, and take a stroll along the craft bazaar to shop for souvenirs.

  • Day 3

    Punakha and Dochula Pass

    Today, we will drive to Punakha, which is a 2.5-hour drive from Thimphu. The drive will take us through the beautiful Dochula Pass, which is 3,050 meters above sea level. Here, you will see 108 chortens and the beautiful Druk Wangyal Monastery perched atop a hill, along with spectacular views of Bhutan’s mountain ranges on a clear day. We will visit Punakha Dzong and walk across Bhutan’s longest suspension bridge.

  • Day 4

    Punakha and Wangdiphodrang

    After breakfast, we will drive to the north of Punakha, where we will hike to Khamsum Yuelley Monastery, which is a 20-minute drive north of Punakha. This easy hike will take approximately 45 minutes to reach the beautiful monastery. We will also visit the Wangdiphodrang Dzong, which was recently rebuilt to its former glory after the fire had damaged the Dzong in 2012. In the evening, we will drive back to Thimphu.

  • Day 5

    Tiger's Nest Hike

    We will drive to the trailhead of Taktsang Monastery in Paro, where you will hike to the monastery for about three hours. After touring the monastery, we will proceed to the cafeteria for lunch, which offers a beautiful viewpoint of Taktsang Monastery. After lunch, we will hike back down to where our vehicle will be waiting to take us to the hotel. On the way, we will stop to visit the sacred Kyichu Lhakhang. Enjoy your free evening.

  • Day 6

    Departure

    Our guide will see you off at the airport this morning for your onward flight. We hope you carry back wonderful memories from your trip!
